EMS Week 2008

National EMS Week brings together local communities and medical service personnel to promote safety and honor the dedication of those who provide the day-to-day lifesaving services of medicine's frontline. This year, SDMSE honored nearly 550 employees throughout the week.

Tuesday, May 13

City of San Diego Councilmember Anthony Young presented SDMSE with a proclamation declaringthe Week of May 19 to be Emergency Medical Services Week in the city of San Diego.

Saturday, May 17

SDMSE hosted an employee picnic at Admiral Baker Park for all Rural Metro and fire personnel. The event was a great success with more than 250 attendees, half a dozen supervisors soaked in the dunk tank, dozens of raffle items given out, dozens of on-duty crews rotated through and our very own Director of Operations Frank Parra at the grill.

Monday, May 19

Mayor Jerry Sanders hosted a press conference honoring EMS and first responders. Mayor Sanders hailed the efforts of SDMSE personnel during the

2007 wild fires, and highlighted use of the specialized ambulance equipment in the field.

Thursday, May 22

SDMSE paramedics Julie Lahr, Mike Roman and Mateo Zepeda shadowed servers at Oggi's Pizza & Brewing Company in Liberty Station and collected donations for the San Diego Fire-Rescue Foundation. The restaurant also donated 15 percent of the evening's proceeds, raising nearly $1,000 for the foundation.

Friday, May 23

SDMSE donated a free CPR class to ElderHelp of San Diego, a non-profit organization helping seniors stay in their homes.

SDMSE also hosted an SDMSE employee appreciation night at Dave & Busters in Mission Valley.
