Partnership/Organizational Overview
San Diego Medical Services is a limited liability company between the city of San Diego and Rural/Metro Ambulance. As the largest 911 paramedic and non-emergency ambulance provider in San Diego County, SDMS brings together the best of both the public and private sector, and sets a national standard for exceptional emergency medical service.
SDMS is governed by a Board of Managers comprised of three city of San Diego and two Rural/Metro representatives. The chair of the board is appointed by the Mayor.
The Board of Managers approves the SDMS annual budget, provides system oversight, makes key system and operational recommendations, approves system enhancements, makes key strategic recommendations, approves the SDMS strategic plan and ensures SDMS is accountable to the citizens of San Diego.
